Free KS3 Spreadsheet Resources

The following unit of work has been created to help Key Stage 3 teachers of ICT develop spreadsheet skills in their students. Although spreadsheet software forms the core of the work required, students will need to use a range of additional software to complete the tasks. This approach has been taken to encourage students to draw more meaning from the data and to develop their understanding of how to combine the benefits of different applications to solve problems.

All tasks come complete with worksheets, electronic files, interactive assessments and guidance on delivery for teachers. The activities have been created to run with Microsoft Excel. What2Learn Ltd owns the copyright of all resources in this unit – they are not to be shared on other websites.

As rough guidance, these resources will take most groups around 8 hours of lessons to complete thoroughly as Task 4 should take around 2 hours and Task 5 should take around 3 hours.

Click the links to go through to the resources and instructions for each task.

Task One: Writing formulae

Practice and tests on the use of formulae for performing calculations.

Task Two: Barry’s Burger Van

Calculate the revenue from a burger van using formulae, change data, format cells and present data in charts.

Task Three: Professor Stealyarty

Complete and use a spreadsheet model to help with decision making.

Task Four: Tornado Valley

Analyse data on tornadoes in Colorado before presenting findings.

Task Five: California Road Trip

A fun mini-project in which students need to complete and use a spreadsheet model to formulate an itinerary. Includes many other elements such as mileage grids, research, mapping, etc

NEW: Play our fun interactive learning game about KS3 Spreadsheets – this can be played as a whole class on an interactive whiteboard or students can play against one another in pairs. Click here to play it.
