GCSE ICT: online shopping – data analysis

In Unit 1 of the Edexcel GCSE in ICT (‘Living in a Digital World’), Topic 4 (online goods and services) requires students to learn about a range of online services including online shopping. At the same time as developing this knowledge they will be enhancing the practical skills required for Unit 2 (‘Using Digital Tools’). Similar requirements exist for both AQA and OCR.

This is the first in a series of lessons on online shopping. In this activity students will learn about perceptions towards online shopping and how these are changing. Alongside this development of knowledge, they will be developing and demonstrating their skills within the use of spreadsheet applications.

Teacher guidance on delivery:

To avoid this activity simply becoming a ‘spreadsheet task’, the lesson needs to contain plenty of teacher-led discussion focusing on what the data actually means. Students will need to be encouraged (individually and within whole-class discussions) to analyse, evaluate and explain what the data shows.

Those students who complete all tasks within the worksheet should be directed to log in to What2Learn and attempt the ‘online shopping’ activities within the GCSE ICT topic (share code: 916649).
