Unlock the potential of ADD / ADHD children
Are you looking for new ways to unlock a child’s true potential within education? Please read on to learn how to access a totally free resource which may revolutionize the child’s learning.
Up to 1 in 20 children have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. ADHD/ADD is characterized by a lack of attention and impulsivity. These are characteristics which will hinder the academic progress made by a child unless appropriate support structures are in place both at home and at school.
Without such support the outlook can be rather bleak. These children, despite often being very talented and bright individuals, may fall far short of their potential within education. Studies have suggested that almost half of ADHD/ADD students are suspended by their schools at some point.
What2Learn provides a free resource to enable all students, but particularly those with a range of learning difficulties, to prepare for exam success. Co-designed by a national award-winning teacher (Becta Award for ICT in Practice, 2005), this unique, innovative and effective resource is available to you totally free of charge. Sign up today.

Dr Margaret Hurst of the ADHD Clinic (Moncton, NB) has provided what we believe to be an excellent list of tips for dealing with ADHD students. Some of these are listed below along with details of how What2Learn provides parents and teachers with a great opportunity to support learning in a stimulating and effective way.
• Make a game out of things. Motivation improves ADD.
The learning opportunities within What2Learn are provided within 1,500 interactive, fun and colorful learning games.
• Monitor progress often. Encourage a structure for self reporting, self monitoring.
All student attainment in What2Learn is automatically calculated and recorded on their portfolio. This automated monitoring enables student, parents and teachers to quickly and easily see and reward progress that is being made.
• Repeat, repeat, repeat.
Activities within What2Learn provide instant feedback and advice, enabling students to play and replay the fun activities to build their understanding. Randomization of the order in which questions are asked makes the games slightly different each time and maintains challenge and interest.
• …be playful, have fun, be unconventional, be flamboyant. Introduce novelty into the day. People with ADD love novelty. They respond to it with enthusiasm. It helps keep attention…
Why answer questions in an exercise book when you can do it while taking part in a skiing race, saving penguins from global warming, rescuing space monkeys, etc? The wide range of game engines within What2Learn will provide many hours of learning fun.
• With older kids, have them write little notes to themselves…
When a student has completed an activity on What2Learn they can write a short note to remind themselves of what they have learned. This is saved on their online portfolio and provides an excellent means of reinforcing understanding.
• Handwriting is difficult for many of these children. Learn how to use a keyboard.
ADHD/ADD students usually love to use computers. Being computer-based, What2Learn provides them with a great opportunity to demonstrate and develop their understanding whilst developing keyboard and mouse skills.
