Embed W2L games into blogs or websites

.

Once you have made an interactive learning game using the What2Learn game generator there are many different ways you can use it. One way which is growing in popularity is to embed the game into your Moodle Virtual Learning Environment. This is a great way of providing some fun and effective learning opportunities to your online materials.

Step One: Make a game using the What2Learn game generator. This is quick and easy to do – simply select the game engine you want to use and fill in a form stating the questions and answers you want.

Step Two: When you play your completed game you should see some ‘embed code’ to the right of your game (see below). You need to highlight and copy the embed code.

Step Three: Paste the embed code for your game into the source code of your blog or website. Your W2L game will now be available for visitors to your site to play without coming through W2L.

Please note that this does provide a great means of enhancing the interactivity levels within your own website, but it is only by adding your games to the main W2L website that you will be able to see the scores people have attained in your games. To learn more about this click here.

Link to your students at W2L

.

Since version 2 of W2L, it has been possible for you as a teacher to track and reward the progress of your students. All that is required for you to start doing this is for your students to enter your unique teacher reference number into the ’share code’ box on the dashboard when your students first log in.

To find your unique teacher reference number simply log in to your W2L teacher account and look at the dashboard. Somewhere on there you should see ‘Your code to invite students to share their progress with you is: *****’.

Write this unique number big onto the board in the classroom you are using and ask students to make sure that the first thing they do once they log is to enter this number into the share code box.

Get W2L accounts for your students

.

Option One: Do-it-yourself!

The recommended option. We have a free, automated system to generate student accounts . Please feel free to use this system to create an account for yourself so you can take a look at What2Learn. You can use this system to create as many accounts as you need. You could even provide lesson time to allow the students to make their own accounts.
If your students do not all have access to an email address you can create an email address at yahoo, write this on your board and get your students to type this in when creating their account. If you keep this account open in the lesson and keep refreshing the page you will be able to activate the accounts for students. Warning: If you create accounts this way students will not be able to manage their own accounts if they forget their username or password.

Top tips:

- Students should try to register using the same username that they use to log on to the school network – it is one less thing for them to remember!
- Get students to write down their username and password in their planners once they have activated their accounts and successfully logged in for the first time.
- Get students to enter your unique teacher number in the share code box as soon as they log in.

Option Two: Ask us to bulk-create accounts for your school

We are able to bulk-create all of the accounts for the students in your school. This will save you time and will enable you to keep a central record of all of the student account details. In addition to having all accounts created you will receive a deployment pack helping you to get your students, staff and parents started with What2Learn.
Due to the time required to set this up for you we must make an administrative charge of £250 (GBP). To request this service please get in touch using our contact form.

W2L Teacher Accounts

.

What2Learn teacher accounts have continued to develop and now offer the following great features:

Access student progress data

By entering your unique teacher share code students will instantly be linked to you to enable you to access their progress data. A range of reports allow you to investigate the progress of individual students or you could select a specific activity and see how your students (or a particular group of students) have scored within it.

Organise your students

Once your students have linked to you it is possible to organise them into the groups or classes that you teach them in. This makes it much easier for you to monitor progress.

Create your own ‘Topics’ – set of quizzes and games

What2Learn provides a fantastic and free way to quickly and easily create your own interactive quizzes and learning games. All you need to do is provide the questions and answers and your activity will be instantly created. You can then pull these games into your own ‘Topics’ – collections of your own games specific to the requirements of your students. All student attainment in your topics will be instantly recorded. Contribute to the development of W2L

W2L is a free-to-use, non-commercial resource. Despite being a national award-winning educational resouorce, it has been created by just two people in their free time. When you create your own topics full of learning activities to help students in your lessons, these topics will go into a directory of optional units for other teachers and students to use. In effect you will become an author of educational content. We have tens of thousands of users – how many will access your material? Such collaborative work is encouraged in schools now and has been used by teachers to help attain promotions and to pass through threshold assessments.
